Cambridge Companions Online著眼於人文學科主題，內容來自250個以上的合作單位，超過2千篇以上之文章，包含作者、藝術家、哲學家及專題介紹，並透過專業的論述以提供系統化的評論。此外，亦提供年表、詳盡書目資訊及閱讀指南等，提供人文學科主題的重要資源，如文學、哲學、宗教及文化研究等。

為中英文圖書數位化國際合作計畫，成立之專案的英文名稱為China-America Digital Academic Library，簡稱CADAL，其由美國合作方投入的相當於1千萬美元的軟硬體系統支援，且委由浙江大學和中國科學院研究生院等單位共同承擔之國家投資建設。從美國數位圖書館聯盟高校選擇50萬冊英文圖書資源進行數位化轉換，以有效扭轉國內大專院校和科研機構英文原版圖書資源嚴重不足的狀況；另提供50萬冊中文圖書資源以提供高校教學科研的需要，兼顧保存和傳承我國優秀傳統文化的要求。
