Advantages of Interdisciplinary Studies in Job Placements

Facing the global trend in emphasizing interdisciplinary integration and innovation, Dharma Drum University cultivates not only students’ professional skills in a specific field but also their innovative, integrating, and cross-cultural capabilities. With DDU’s diverse learning environment including its interdisciplinary curriculum, and its integrated learning platform and research center, the students are expected to possess the following unique, competitive advantages:

Emphasis of domestic and international internship

The program emphasizes integration of theory and practice. All students will be involved in domestic and overseas internships to gain hands-on experience, which at the same time will open a new channel for future employment opportunities. Especially the six-month overseas training helps students to develop a working capability in a different culture, adapting themselves to a new language, a new environment, and different political and economic conditions, which all provides useful connections for students to extend their career outlook to other countries and to the world. The university and the Dharma Drum Mountain use their global networks to offer students international internship opportunities.

Interdisciplinary training through research projects

The era of globalization highlights “integration” and the ability to form a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team is essential for students to pursue careers in a high added-value profession. Every school in DDU will establish its own research center as an “integration platform”, which provides resources such as integrational studies and projects that enable students to develop executive and management abilities in multiple projects. 。

Responsiveness and Competence in Addressing Diverse social needs

The Master’s in Community Regeneration program (MCR), based on theory and practice, provides community development practitioners with systematic core knowledge in revitalizing local cultures and communities. The program values local culture, grassroots organizations, and community involvement. Additionally, the program emphasizes the issues and methodologies in community-level spatial design as well as the regeneration of local heritages and the development of a cultural industry. The MCR program offers core courses and hand-on experiences for students to improve the design skills for the culture and creativity industries, the abilities to mobilize and organize community involvement, the planning skills in spatial design, and the abilities to apply information technologies for culture.
